I am ready for some FOOTBALL!

It's no surprise that I'm a BC Lions fan.  In fact, I've been a fan since before it was cool.  My dad bought season tickets for two years in a row when I was 10/11 years old and through those two seasons, I learned the rules of football.  We always ended up going to at least one game each season after that, in fact when I moved out, I bought my own pair of season tickets.

Baby K went to 3 games last year, including our season championship, the Grey Cup.  That little 5.5 month old did fantastic!  And we WON!  So as defending champions, my dad and I bought season tickets this year.  And we did fantastic again, even with a new head coach.  First in the league!  And today, we play in the Western Championship game, which I am going to!

I've had a great weekend in the store and want to keep that energy going.  So I'm going to play a little game with my fans!  Every time the BC Lions score a touchdown, they donate one football to minor league teams and I'm going to copy them.

'Tis that time of year

Christmas, that is.  And I love everything about Christmas, including doing things for those less fortunate.  And I've found a way that you can be involved as well!

Update for local customers

Great update for my local customers!

I hate to admit it, but it seems like my local orders have been taking too long to complete and get out.  I receive requests through email, Facebook and in person and while I try to keep a spreadsheet of all orders, it's hard to keep track of when everything was 'ordered' when there is no official order placed.  It is just easier to keep all of my orders in Hyena Cart and work through them on there in the order received.

So I've made some adjustments to my Hyena Cart store and now local orders will be placed through there as well.  I have added a local pickup option to the shipping options, and have activated the 'check/money order' option.  This option is ONLY available to customers who will pick up or meet locally and is simply there in lieu of cash, since I don't have that option on HC.  Other orders placed using this option, will be cancelled.

If you are a local customer and have a pending request, I will contact you if I need you to use this option, with a link to your personal listing.  Otherwise, your order IS in process and I will contact you when it is completed.  This also gives my local customers the option to use paypal and pay for shipping if they prefer that.

I will be back later with more store updates, but wanted to get this typed out before I forgot.

On the 8th Day of Christmas.....

Today's sale is BIBS!

Terry backed bibs (regular $8 each, 2 for $15, 3 for $20) are on sale for $6 each!
Specialty bibs (regular $10 each, 2 for $18, 3 for $25) are on sale for $8 each!


My bibs have a few great features, including the fact that they're longer and they have a side snap closure.  By having the closure on the side, you don't have to play with the bib behind your baby's head, and by having a snap it is harder for your baby to remove.  Snaps are also more durable after washing, I find that velcro collects hair and lint and stuff and then doesn't work as well, whereas snaps don't have that problem.

What makes the specialty bibs that much better?  Instead of having the organic bamboo terry exposed on the back, they had an added layer of super soft minky.  And since these ones are Christmas themed, you get to choose red or green minky!

Great Changes Coming to a Store Near You

It's been just over 6 months now since I jumped into the world of making Cloth Diapers, and in my opinion my store's become pretty successful!  Since March, I've had almost 50 custom orders!  So I'd love to throw out a huge thank you to all my customers who have helped me get to this point!  If you haven't already, please fill out the feedback on the Etsy site from your purchase, or post a picture of your item onto my Facebook page.  Or both.  I'll never complain about cute baby pictures!

Ok, onto the changes!
Until now, my products have been in an introduction phase.  Sort of like a trial period to see which patterns and features work well and which ones don't.  I'm now at a place where I'm extremely happy with the quality of the products that I list and sell in my store and will be ending the introduction prices.  Not until July, but I thought I'd give you guys a heads up, so you can get your orders in before the prices go up.  It won't be by much, but it will help to better cover not only the materials and shipping, but also my time.

I will be making a schedule for myself and will hopefully be able to stick to it.  This means that I will start to have regular stockings.  Probably twice per month to start, and maybe to a point where I can do a stocking every week.  I will also start shipping once per week.  This will hopefully give me more time to finish up orders, instead of worrying about packaging and shipping.  One trip to the post office each week will give me more time to work.

I would also like to announce that I am participating in a few giveaways this summer.  I will announce them on my Facebook page to keep you guys in the loop.  I am also going to be holding a photo contest.  So make sure you get your orders in for your favorite Mommy Loves Maddy products so you can participate!

And finally, the biggest announcement for right now is that I will be taking a vacation this summer.  I will accept custom orders until June 30th.  My Etsy store will be closed from July 10th until July 30th.  If you have any questions, please make sure you contact me before then so that I can accommodate your orders!

Getting ready for the auction

I started an album on the Facebook site tonight for the auction.  I haven't decided which Mommy Loves Maddy items I want to auction off, but I know that 100% of the sale amount from those items will go towards the BC Children's Hospital.  I've also secured other items, including adorable hair bows for your little princess and some photography packages.  All the details are still being ironed out, but stay tuned for more information.

The tentative start date for the auction is March 1st.  Do you have an item or two that you would like to contribute to the auction?  Do you have a business that you would like to be featured here on the blog?  Feel free to email me for more information.  I can't wait to get this started, I know it will be very successful!

Going to host my first auction!!!

I've been thinking about this a lot over the last few months, and finally am going ahead to do it.  I am going to host an auction to raise money to donate to the BC Children's Hospital in Ellie's name.  Ellie is the daughter of a dear friend of mine.  She was born 8 weeks early and was later diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Prader-Willi Syndrome.  She will endure years of testing, treating, and hospital stays.  Ellie's mom, Susanne, is a fantastic wife, mother, and friend.  She recently made and gave 16 blankets to the ICU because the ones there were really scratchy.

Along with doing something for a good friend, helping out the BC Children's Hospital is something I'm fairly passionate about.  When I was 6.5 years old, my 18 month old brother, C, was diagnosed with Leukemia.  This started 4 years of treatments, chemotherapy and many hospital stays.  I didn't realize then, how stressful this was for my parents, who surprisingly kept life fairly normal for my brother, J, and I.  Now that I'm a parent, I realize how hard this must have been for my parents, and how hard it is for Susanne and her husband, J, and their son, little J.  But as both Susanne and my mom have said, you just do it.  You somehow get the strength and life goes on, because it has to.

And the amazing staff at the hospital are a huge help.  I remember that the oncology clinic had a Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis with Sonic, which were pretty cool in 1992.  All the nurses remembered J and I, who really didn't know what was going on with C.   In a recent conversation, Susanne said that Ellie is so loved at the hospital and it makes it easier to leave her there.  She even recently witnessed two nurses fighting over who got to feed her.  Susanne also said that her son, little J, LOVES going to visit Ellie and will happily spend 5 hours at a time at the hospital.

So on that note, I am announcing an auction to make a donation to the hospital in Ellie's name.  There are so many people who love this little girl, and I feel privileged to have spent some time with her.   If you are interested in donating a product or service for this auction, please email me at mommylovesmaddy@gmail.com.  Please let me know if you are donating the entire sale amount or a portion of the amount, what price you would like the item(s) to start at, if you're including shipping, or charging in addition to the sale price, and include a photo of the item(s).
