About Cloth Diapers

There are many types of cloth diapers, each of which are excellent, depending on why you are using cloth. From very inexpensive to very similar to disposables, there are options for everyone.

Prefolds and Covers
Prefolds are the most inexpensive option.  They are the most similar to the cloth diapers your grandmother might have used.  They are a square piece of absorbent fabric that you pin or snap onto your baby, and then cover with a waterproof diaper cover, clever name, 'eh?  Putting on a prefold requires a bit of work, since you have to fold it into a shape that will wrap around your baby, and then pin it together before putting on a cover, but at around $1-2 per prefold, and since you can use a cover for more than one diaper change as long as it isn't dirty, they are the most affordable option.

Mommy Loves Maddy makes a few different types of diaper covers.  Minky covers have an outer layer of super soft minky in one of many different colors or prints, and an inner layer of waterproof PUL.  FOE covers are a single layer of colored or print PUL with a Fold Over Elastic trim.  Both types of covers are available with either snap or hook and loop closures and are available in sized or a two size option.

Pocket Diapers
Pocket diapers are more similar to disposables, but are very adaptable to your baby.  Imagine a diaper cover, with a layer of moisture wicking fabric attached, and a pocket, into which you can add your moisture absorbing inserts.  These are hugely popular.  You can add the type and amount of absorbency that you need.  You can add more for nighttime, if you need it.  You can use different fabrics depending on what works best for your baby.  I add the inserts to the pocket diapers when I'm folding the laundry, so these are ready to use when I need them, just like a disposable.

Mommy Loves Maddy has just started making pocket diapers and a very limited number are available while they undergo testing.  As stated above, there are many different kinds of pocket diapers, using different types of outer and inner fabrics with a layer of waterproof PUL.

Wetbags
When you use cloth diapers out and about, you need somewhere to store the dirty diapers after a change.  This is what wetbags are for.  They come in a variety of sizes, depending on how many diapers you need to store.  Wetbags are made with either a PUL print, or with an inner layer of PUL and an outer layer of a cotton print.  In addition to carrying dirty diapers, wetbags are great for dirty clothes, wipes, even toiletries.

Each diaper and accessory will have a detailed description in the product listing.  If you have any other questions about Mommy Loves Maddy products or cloth diapers, please contact us.
